iCloud Setup - Setting up iCloud

So you have decided to start using iCloud, but need an “how to setup iCloud” guide to get you started. This website should help you out with an iCloud setup on your devices.

Setting up iCloud on your devices

Apple has now released the iCloud. The iCloud is as automated services that syncs all your content across your “apple” devices. iPhones, iPods, iMac and PC’s are all able to be used with iCloud. You can also include things that will help you find your Mac called “Find My Mac” and respectively “Find My iPhone”. Obviously some of the more common features of using iCloud would be to sync your calenders, emails, phone contacts etc.

iCloud Setup Requirements

Here are some of the first things you need in order to be able to setup iCloud on your devices:

  • Your Apple ID – This will be the same as your iTunes login (you can get this from www.apple.com)
  • iOS 5 update – for iPad, iPhone or iPod touch
  • Mac OS X 10.7.2 updated – for Macintosh users
  • Install iTunes 10.5 – required for Windows & Macintosh users

Once you have those setup you can set up your free iCloud account. You can setup your account with an iPad or an iPhone with iOS 5. First you need to be certain that you have upgraded your iCloud compatible devices to ensure the best setting up of iCloud.


The following steps will get you started with your iCloud Setup:

  1. Go to settings app
  2. Proceed to iCloud
  3. Choose to “Sign in with Apple ID” (if you dont have one you can sign up at this point also)
  4. Enter your ID (iTunes account name)
  5. Choose “Use iCloud” at the setup screen (see below)
  6. You can now choose the services you want to sync with iCloud by tapping on the “ON” switch these may include: Email, calenders, reminders, notes, music, photos, bookmarks.

You will obviously at this point need to have your Mac updated to 10.7.2, you can do with with a software update.

  1. Go to your system preferences
  2. Select “iCloud” under ‘networking’
  3. Enter / Setup a new Apple ID
  4. Accept the user agreement and decide on the apps and services you would like to sync with iCloud.

iCloud Services

Once you’ve fully compelted the iCloud setup, you may want to visit the iCloud.com website to use the applications and services they have, these include Mail, Contacts, Find My iPhone etc. You should be able to access all this using your Apple ID (as mentioned above).
